‘Shadows of Light’ will exhibit in Chiba City.
In this series, the predecessor to his latest work Dance with Blanks, Morishita has avoided personal narrative in his work as much as possible, and has instead explored the intensity of form and the roots of existence through light. The work reflects the artist’s own experience of loss and her wish to preserve the ‘ever-losing’ existence in her work. However, despite the fact that the work focuses on private scenes, the individual events, neatly captured in high contrast rectangles, are filled with a universal tranquillity.
“Light melds with things and creates shadows, but it does not illuminate itself.
Light knows neither time nor being here.
It resonates with the uncertain world. Everything is there. In a different way of being.”
